Update From Pastor Rob
Hey Redmond AG,

This week in one of the meetings I attended, we had a great discussion about spiritual questions vs. organizational questions. Scripture tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That raises an important question: does that make every decision a spiritual one? Do we need to pray about every single choice we make?

A mentor once taught me something that has helped me greatly as a church leader: there is a difference between a spiritual question and an organizational question. Spiritual questions are answered through Scripture.
Organizational questions are not directly answered in the Bible, and in many of these areas God gives us wisdom and freedom to choose. For example, you don’t need to pray about where to eat lunch today, you can simply choose.

Sometimes churches, and individuals, become paralyzed by trying to answer organizational questions in only spiritual ways. When we get out of balance, progress slows and nothing moves forward. At times in church history, some ministries became so cautious that decisions stalled after prayer, and needed action was delayed. Others fall into the opposite extreme and make decisions without seeking God at all, relying only on personal agendas. Balance is key.

So how do we apply this?

Before making a decision, ask: Is this a spiritual question or an organizational one? If it is clearly addressed in the Bible, it is spiritual — go to Scripture and obey it. If it is not directly addressed in Scripture, it is organizational — use wisdom and move forward unless God redirects.

This doesn’t mean we stop praying — it means we don’t delay obedience while waiting for extra confirmation on things God has already made clear. Not every daily choice requires a special spiritual sign, sometimes we simply use the wisdom God has given us.

We see this pattern in Acts. In Acts 6, the Apostles faced an organizational challenge and created a practical solution so ministry could continue effectively. We also see Paul and his team moving forward in mission until God redirected them (Acts 16:6–10). They didn’t stand still, they went until God said no.

We are called to action, not inaction. We are called to work to advance the Kingdom. If something is biblical, do it. If something isn’t directly addressed in Scripture, make a wise decision and move forward. All the while, keep praying, stay in conversation with God.

This Sunday we’ll be in Acts 6, and it’s a great week to invite a friend — honestly, every week is a great time to invite someone. We can’t wait to see you Sunday.
